SILVER CITY – The athletic training staff at Western New Mexico University has been named the 2024–25 Lone Star Conference Athletic Training Staff of the Year among football-playing institutions. This marks the second time in three seasons that WNMU has earned the distinction, having also received the honor in 2022–23.

The award-winning team is led by Head Athletic Trainer Terra Dunlap, who recently wrapped up her 18th year with the university. In addition to her role in sports medicine, Dunlap also serves as WNMU’s Senior Woman Administrator, offering leadership and support across the athletics department.

Assisting Dunlap during the 2024–25 academic year were Assistant Athletic Trainers Jocelyn Hurtado and Brooke Weisenberger, along with student assistants Selma Carrasco, Sorrin Garcia, Nicholas Bobo, and Maxx Todden. The group provides comprehensive medical care for 13 varsity sports year-round, playing a crucial role in keeping Mustang student-athletes healthy and game-ready.

The Lone Star Conference first established this award in 2004 to recognize excellence in the athletic training profession. Since 2019, honors have been given annually to one football-playing school and one non-football institution. St. Edward’s University received this year’s award in the non-football category.

Honorees are selected through votes cast by head athletic trainers across the conference, with criteria including emergency preparedness, quality of care, hospitality toward visiting teams, and overall professionalism.

WNMU’s continued recognition highlights the consistency, care, and behind-the-scenes commitment that support Mustang Athletics year after year.
