Local Arrest and Crime Report – Thursday July 10th

DEMING – Authorities in Luna County booked several individuals into the detention center between Wednesday morning and Thursday morning this week, with charges ranging from failure to appear to more serious offenses.

Among those arrested was Raheel Zafar Sultan, 38, of Checotah, Oklahoma, who was taken into custody on Thursday morning for multiple outstanding bench warrants related to failure to appear and failure to pay.

Also arrested were Randy Rene Torres, 36; Enrique Santos-Villegas, 26; and Luis Escalante, 40—each booked on charges including probation violations, failure to comply, battery, and tampering with evidence.

Anthony Israel Abrego, 29, was picked up on a municipal warrant for failure to appear, while Bryan Sandoval, 31, was arrested on a Magistrate warrant. Meanwhile, Ezequiel Solis-Nunez, a 19-year-old from Columbus, was charged with false imprisonment and battery against a household member following a reported domestic incident.

In other crime reports:

  • A cell phone valued at $500 was stolen from a residence on East 4th Street.
  • Approximately 100 gallons of diesel fuel, worth $319, was taken from the pumps at Pepper’s Chevron on South Columbus Road.
  • Mail theft was reported on Roswell Street between July 1st and July 8th, where packages valued around $200 were stolen from a front porch.

Burglary cases were also reported on Monday, July 7th. Around 7:30 PM, a storage shed on South Iron Street was broken into and several hand tools were taken. Investigators say two suspects have been identified and evidential leads are being pursued. Later that same night, at approximately 10:30 PM, another shed on West 1st Street was burglarized, with music speakers valued at $500 reported stolen. No suspects have been identified in that case.

In a separate incident, someone broke into a building on the 3000 block of Raymond Reed Boulevard by cutting a padlock. No items were reported missing, but the break-in remains under investigation.

Lastly, a 16-year-old male juvenile is facing several charges after allegedly assaulting a peace officer and causing damage to household property. The teen was also charged with resisting and obstructing an officer. He was transported and released into the custody of the Lea County Juvenile Detention Center.
