DEMING – The City of Deming has released its 2024 Consumer Confidence Report, confirming that the city’s drinking water remains safe and meets all federal and state health standards. The annual report, mandated under the Safe Drinking Water Act, offers detailed information on local water sources, testing results, and contaminant levels.
While the report notes the presence of trace amounts of arsenic and chlorine, both are well within legal limits. City officials emphasize there are no health violations. Recent test results show chlorine levels between 0.2 and 0.3 parts per million—used to help prevent microbial contamination.
A notable update in this year’s report is the City’s submission of a lead service line inventory to the New Mexico Environment Department. Although no lead violations were found, residents—especially those in older homes—are encouraged to flush their tap water for 30 seconds to 2 minutes before use.
The report also highlights the naturally occurring minerals found in groundwater and includes safety recommendations for individuals with compromised immune systems, infants, and seniors.
For a copy of the full report, residents can contact the NMED Drinking Water Bureau. More information is also available through the EPA’s Safe Drinking Water website at epa.gov/safewater, or by calling the Safe Water Hotline at 1-800-426-4791.
