Proposed state–BLM land exchange: public meetings in Lordsburg, Deming, and Silver City

DEMING – The New Mexico State Land Office and the BLM Las Cruces District will take public comment Sept. 22–25 on a proposed land exchange involving state trust in-holdings within and around the Organ Mountains–Desert Peaks National Monument.

Under the proposal, the state would transfer certain landlocked trust parcels to federal management and receive lands of equal market value better suited to its mandate of generating revenue for public schools, universities and hospitals.

The exchange area includes parcels in Doña Ana, Grant, and Luna counties, with some in Hidalgo County, according to BLM. Bureau of Land Management+1

Meetings for our area are: Lordsburg — Tuesday, Sept. 23, 6:00–7:30 p.m., Hidalgo County Council Chambers, 305 Pyramid St.; Deming — Wednesday, Sept. 24, 6:00–7:30 p.m., Mimbres Valley Special Events Center, 2300 E. Pine St.; and Silver City — Thursday, Sept. 25, 6:00–7:30 p.m., Grant County Business and Conference Center, 3031 US-180.
