DEMING – Road crews will stay busy around Deming and Luna County as several New Mexico Department of Transportation projects move forward.
On US 180 and Gold Street, RT Electric is continuing signalization work at Railroad, Pine, Cedar and Ash. Crews are installing signals, curb and gutter, ADA ramps, median curbs, signage and striping. Lane closures and sidewalk restrictions will be in place weekdays from 6:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., with completion expected by December 2025.
On NM 549, Mountain States Constructors is continuing roadway rehabilitation from milepost 24 to 31. Drivers should expect lane closures in both directions, pilot car operations, and restrictions for oversized loads. Work runs weekdays 6:30 a.m. to 7 p.m., with possible weekend hours.
Near the Columbus Port of Entry, Morrow Enterprises is building a new concrete box culvert at NM 11 and El Paso Avenue. Speed limits are reduced and traffic controls are in place weekdays from 6:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.
In addition, NMDOT will continue chip seal operations in Columbus and Deming. Drivers should expect flaggers, pilot cars, temporary stops, brooming, and loose gravel for several days after treatment. Speed limits are reduced to 35 mph until work is complete. Roads scheduled for chip seal include NM 9 near the Columbus–Dona Ana County line, Pancho Villa State Park Road, various I-10 frontage roads in the Gage and Akela areas, NM 418 (Old Lordsburg Highway), and NM 377 at Pecan Park.
