Local Arrest & Crime Report for today

DEMING – Deming Police have released their most recent summary of arrests and investigations, outlining several felony and misdemeanor cases handled by officers.

According to the report, officers arrested 43-year-old David Montano on multiple charges, including possession of a firearm by a felon, two counts of trafficking methamphetamine, two counts of possession of a controlled substance, and two counts of possession of drug paraphernalia. Montano was also served with a District Court warrant for probation violation.

Police also arrested 43-year-old Steven Almanza on a Municipal Court warrant for failure to pay fines. Meanwhile, 30-year-old Christina Escobar was charged with battery upon a household member, and 36-year-old Andres Calderon was taken into custody on a District Court warrant for probation violation.

In a separate case, 35-year-old Uziel Carrillo was arrested on a Luna County Magistrate Court warrant for aggravated battery against a household member. Additionally, 43-year-old Steven Alba was arrested for interference with officers and on several outstanding warrants, including larceny, commercial burglary, receiving stolen governmental property, and failure to appear.

Police also investigated several property crimes. A vehicle was broken into in the 1300 block of East Birch Street, and a stereo was stolen with about $100 in damage reported. A residential burglary occurred in the 2400 block of South Nickel Street, where household items and tools valued at approximately $400 were taken. Officers also responded to two reports of criminal damage to property: one in the 600 block of South Silver Street, where the windshield of a 2002 Ford Ranger was broken by a rock causing $300 in damage, and another in the 300 block of West First Street, where windows to a residence were damaged, with losses estimated at $100.

Information was provided by the Deming Police Department and the Luna County Detention Center. All persons mentioned are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
