DEMING – Luna County officials are advising the public that a helicopter will be flying over portions of the region as part of the New Mexico Bureau of Geology and Mineral Resources Aquifer Mapping Program. The flights are scheduled between November 17 and December 6, with dates subject to change based on weather and wind conditions.
County Manager Chris Brice said the project is important for long-term water planning in the region. “These flights will help scientists better understand groundwater movement and storage,” Brice said. “It’s valuable information for the county and for our residents.”
The helicopter will be collecting data on groundwater flow, storage capacity, and how conditions shift over time. Officials emphasize that this is a routine scientific survey conducted by the state’s aquifer mapping team.
