State Police to Conduct December Checkpoints in Deming, Luna County, and All New Mexico Counties

DEMING – New Mexico State Police will be conducting sobriety checkpoints, saturation patrols, and registration, insurance, and driver’s license checkpoints in Deming, Luna County, and all 33 counties across New Mexico throughout December 2025.

The purpose of releasing this information is to raise awareness and help reduce impaired-driving fatalities through continued media attention and strong public outreach. These enforcement efforts aim to influence behavior and reinforce that driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs is dangerous and unacceptable.

Officials note that checkpoints remain an effective tool in changing society’s attitude toward impaired driving. Safety experts estimate that hundreds of lives could be saved each year statewide if every driver made the choice not to drive impaired.

The New Mexico Department of Transportation Traffic Safety Division provides overtime grant funding to local police and sheriff’s offices for enforcement, officer training, education, and equipment in high-risk areas across the state. This partnership strengthens efforts to improve roadway safety and reduce impaired-driving incidents in communities throughout New Mexico. #ENDWI
