MLK Community Gathering Planned in Deming to Honor Dr. King’s Legacy

DEMING — A community event honoring the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. is planned for Sunday, January 19, 2026, at the Mimbres Valley Special Events Center in Deming.

The event, titled “Mission Possible 2: Building Community, Uniting a Nation the Nonviolent Way,” will take place from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and is centered on Dr. King’s enduring message of justice, peace, and nonviolence. Organizers say the gathering is designed to bring the community together in reflection, celebration, and action inspired by Dr. King’s life and work.

According to event organizers, preparations are underway for a variety of activities, including guest speakers, entertainment, and children’s activities. Attendees will also receive MLK T-shirts and are invited to enjoy a complimentary lunch and refreshments while supplies last.

The event’s theme emphasizes the well-known quote attributed to Dr. King: “True peace is not merely the absence of tension; it is the presence of justice.” Organizers say this message will serve as a guiding principle throughout the day’s activities.

Community members are encouraged to attend and participate in honoring Dr. King’s legacy through fellowship and unity. Additional event details and updates can be found on Facebook at facebook.com/CelebratingtheLegacyofMLK.
