DEMING – A new Senior Olympics program is being planned for Luna County, with organizers inviting residents age 50 and older to help shape and participate in the inaugural event scheduled for 2026.
The Senior Olympics initiative aims to promote fitness, healthy aging, and community connection among older adults. Organizers emphasize that age is not a limitation, describing the program as open to both seasoned athletes and seniors who may be new to organized physical activities. The effort is being coordinated through the Deming Luna County Commission on Aging.
The Senior Olympics will feature a variety of fitness-based events designed to encourage active lifestyles while fostering camaraderie and friendly competition. The program is intended to motivate, engage, and connect adults 50 and older through structured sports, active living opportunities, and community involvement.
Reginald Price, Executive Director of the Deming Senior Citizens Center, said the current outreach phase is an important first step toward establishing a successful Senior Olympics program in Luna County. He noted that community involvement will be essential in shaping the event and ensuring it reflects the interests and abilities of local seniors.
Residents interested in participating as athletes, volunteers, sponsors, or committee members are encouraged to contact Price for additional information.
