WNMU Expressive Arts Department Opens Annual Juried Student Exhibition

DEMING — Western New Mexico University is inviting the community to experience student creativity and artistic excellence during its annual Expressive Arts Juried Student Exhibition, opening later this month at the McCray Gallery of Contemporary Art on the WNMU campus.

The exhibition will officially open with a public reception on Thursday, January 29, at 6:00 p.m., where visitors can meet the student artists and view the selected works as they are unveiled. The full exhibition will remain on display from January 29 through February 19, 2026.

The annual showcase highlights a wide range of artistic disciplines within WNMU’s Expressive Arts Department. Works on display typically include painting, ceramics, digital media, photography, and sculpture, offering visitors a broad look at the creative approaches and technical skills of the university’s students.

Each year, the exhibition is juried by a guest professional who selects pieces based on technical merit, conceptual depth, and originality, giving students the opportunity to present their work in a formal gallery setting and gain valuable professional exposure.

The McCray Gallery of Contemporary Art is located on the WNMU campus, and both the opening reception and exhibition are open to the public. Community members are encouraged to attend and support local and regional student artists.
