Luna County to Hold Public Hearing on Alleged Nuisance Property

DEMING – The Luna County Board of County Commissioners will hold a public hearing next month to determine whether a property located on Keeler Road northwest of Deming constitutes a public nuisance under county ordinance.

The hearing is scheduled for March 12, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. during the commission’s regular meeting at the Luna County Courthouse, located at 700 South Silver Avenue.

According to the official notice, commissioners will consider a proposed resolution regarding property located at 5410 Keeler Road. The hearing will address whether a public nuisance exists and whether the county should be authorized to enter the property to abate the nuisance if it is not corrected by the owner. If abatement action is taken by the county, the associated costs could be assessed as a lien against the property.

During the public hearing, the commission will receive testimony and evidence related to the alleged nuisance, including information about compliance or noncompliance with prior notices. The property owner and any interested parties will be given an opportunity to be heard.

Individuals wishing to submit written comments may do so prior to March 12, 2026, or may appear in person at the public hearing.

County commission meetings are conducted in accordance with the New Mexico Open Meetings Act. Individuals with disabilities or those needing special services to attend the hearing are encouraged to contact the county manager’s office in advance of the meeting.
