DEMING – The Deming City Council is set to address a wide range of items during its regular meeting on Tuesday, March 24, including major infrastructure funding requests, public hearings, and several proclamations recognizing community initiatives.
The meeting will begin at 5:30 p.m. at City Hall, located at 1275 East Pine Street, with options available for residents to attend online or by phone.
Among the key items on the agenda are multiple resolutions involving funding requests through the New Mexico Finance Authority. These include proposed projects tied to fire hydrant system improvements, landfill expansion, and street and utility upgrades, as well as a significant water line replacement project between Pine and Ash streets valued at approximately $840,000.
Councilors will also consider a second infrastructure-related agreement totaling more than $1.7 million for additional improvements connected to regional development and public works needs.
Two public hearings are scheduled, including one that would authorize the lease of certain municipal property in Luna County to Desert Valley Incorporated for operation of a transload facility. Another hearing involves amendments to sections of the city’s municipal code.
In addition, the council will review a request from Municipal Court to purge outstanding warrants and will discuss a potential exchange of city-owned property as part of a preliminary authorization process.
The agenda also includes a presentation on the Deming Community Forest Management Plan by Think Trees Network, along with a report on Interstate 10 beautification efforts from the Community Development Department.
Several proclamations are expected to be approved, recognizing National Fair Housing Month, National Library Week, Crime Victims’ Rights Week, Financial Literacy Month, the Week of the Young Child, Child Abuse Prevention Month, remembrance of the Bataan Memorial Death March, and International Dark Sky Week.
The next regular Deming City Council meeting is scheduled for April 21, 2026, at 5:30 p.m.
