DEMING – Residents in parts of Luna County may notice increased helicopter activity early next week as crews conduct environmental studies related to the Southline Transmission project.
According to Luna County officials, Southline Transmission will be flying helicopters over portions of the region during daylight hours on Monday, March 30, and Tuesday, March 31, 2026. Officials advised that aircraft may operate at low levels, approximately 100 to 150 feet above the ground in some locations.
County officials stated flight crews will take precautions to avoid livestock and sensitive habitat structures during all operations. The activity is part of routine environmental assessment work connected to the transmission line project.
