DEMING – A series of false social media posts warning parents not to send their children to school prompted concern across the community earlier this week, but Deming Public Schools confirmed that classes were held as scheduled and that no verified threat was identified.
The events began Monday evening when the district issued a parental notification addressing an online rumor that incorrectly claimed there would be no school on Tuesday due to teacher professional development. School officials clarified at that time that the information was not accurate and that classes would take place according to the normal schedule.
Concerns resurfaced again Tuesday morning when additional social media posts circulated claiming there was a potential safety risk involving several local schools. District administrators worked closely with local law enforcement to review the situation and determined there was no verified threat. Schools continued operating on a regular schedule, and additional safety measures were implemented as a precaution, including increased supervision and coordination with police presence on campuses.
Officials later confirmed that a third social media post had been shared warning parents not to send their children to school and suggesting that students could face danger if they attended classes. The message urged people to quickly share the information and listed several schools by name as potential targets, creating further concern among families despite the lack of credible details.
Law enforcement authorities have stated that the posts were determined to be false and disruptive. Investigators are currently working to identify and track down the person or persons responsible for creating and distributing the messages. Officials say criminal charges will be pending once those responsible are located and the investigation is completed.
School district leaders emphasized that student and staff safety remained their top priority throughout the situation and thanked families, staff, and law enforcement for their cooperation and vigilance during the incident.
