Cleanup, Community and Cameras: Luna County Invites Public to Join Annual Beautification Day

DEMING – Volunteers, families and local organizations are being invited to roll up their sleeves and take part in the annual Greatest American Cleanup on Saturday, April 18, 2026, at Courthouse Park in Deming. The event will run from 8:00 a.m. to noon and will include community cleanup projects, a public yard sale and a new opportunity for local filmmakers to showcase their creativity.

The cleanup effort is organized by Keep Luna County Beautiful, the local affiliate of Keep America Beautiful, and is part of a nationwide initiative to promote cleaner, greener communities ahead of the summer season. Organizers say the event is designed to encourage residents to take pride in their neighborhoods while working together toward a common goal of environmental stewardship.

This year’s event will also feature collaboration with Film Luna County, inviting filmmakers and content creators to attend the cleanup and produce short-form videos capturing the spirit of community service. Those videos will be shared on social media platforms and may also be featured by Keep America Beautiful as part of its national outreach.

In addition to cleanup activities, organizers will host a community yard sale at the park during the same hours, giving residents an opportunity to buy, sell or donate items while supporting the broader community effort. Officials say the yard sale is intended to reduce waste by encouraging reuse of household goods and providing families with an affordable way to participate in the day’s activities.

Businesses and community groups are also being encouraged to volunteer or contribute supplies to support the event. Organizers note that the cleanup is one of the largest annual beautification efforts in the county and plays an important role in preparing public spaces for spring and summer use.

Those interested in volunteering, reserving a yard sale space, or participating in the filming opportunity can contact organizers by phone at 575-543-6531 or by email at [email protected].

Community leaders emphasize that the success of the event depends on broad participation from residents, businesses and civic organizations working together to keep the county clean, safe and welcoming for everyone.
