Young Artists and Creators Invited to Design the Face of a Beloved Local Tradition

DEMING – The Deming Arts Council is inviting artists of all ages and skill levels to take part in a creative opportunity that could place their artwork at the center of one of Luna County’s most recognizable annual celebrations.

Organizers have announced a community poster contest to design the official promotional artwork for the 2027 Luna County Old West Heritage Days festival. The winning design will be used to represent the event in advertising and promotional materials, giving the selected artist both recognition and a lasting connection to the long-running local tradition.

Contest guidelines call for original artwork that clearly reflects an Old West theme and prominently includes the words “Luna County Old West Heritage Days” along with the event dates of May 14 through May 16, 2027. Artists may work in any medium, allowing for a wide range of creative expression—from painting and drawing to digital or mixed-media designs.

Entries must be submitted by May 15, 2026, and delivered to the Deming Arts Center, located at 100 South Gold Street. A prize will be awarded to the winning artist, and organizers say the contest is intended to celebrate both community creativity and the region’s Western heritage.

Old West Heritage Days has long been a signature event in Luna County, featuring activities and displays that honor the area’s frontier history and cultural roots. By inviting the public to design the official poster, organizers hope to encourage local participation and showcase the artistic talent found throughout the community.

Residents seeking additional details about the contest or submission requirements are encouraged to contact the Deming Arts Council or visit the Deming Arts Center during regular business hours.
