SOCORRO – On Friday May 31, 2024, at around 5:30 a.m., the New Mexico State Police investigated a vehicle versus pedestrian fatal crash on Interstate 25 near mile marker 161.
The initial investigation revealed that a Chevrolet pickup truck was traveling southbound on Interstate 25 near mile marker 161. A deer crossed the road in front of the truck, causing the driver to lose control. The truck rolled into the median. Fortunately, both the driver and passenger were able to exit the truck after the rollover.
Tragically, Adriana Jurado (22) was struck by a white sedan while attempting to pick up debris and belongings from the crash in the northbound lanes of travel. Adriana was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Office of the Medical Investigator. The white sedan fled the scene, leaving behind heavy front-end damage on the driver’s side.
The New Mexico State Police are seeking assistance from the public in identifying the hit-and-run vehicle. The crash is currently under inestigaiotn by the Crash Reconstruction Unit of the NMSP.
