Improvements Scheduled for Lordsburg and Las Cruces Rest Areas
DEMING – The New Mexico Department of Transportation District One office is set to invest approximately $1 million in upgrading two rest areas: the Lordsburg Welcome Center and Rest Area, and the Las Cruces Scenic View Rest Area. Both sites will be closed during the improvement projects, which begin on June 3rd.
“Investing in rest area improvements contributes to the overall maintenance and enhancement of transportation infrastructure, ensuring its longevity and functionality,” stated District Engineer Aaron Chavarria. “Improving New Mexico’s roadside rest areas can have wide-ranging positive impacts on both travelers and the state’s economy.”
The Lordsburg Welcome Center and Rest Area will undergo approximately $995,000 in upgrades to the main building, landscaping, and restrooms. This site will be closed for about three months.
The Las Cruces Scenic View Rest Area will receive approximately $7,000 in upgrades to its water system. This site is expected to be closed for about seven days.
Improving roadside rest areas provides a safe space for drivers to take breaks, reducing the likelihood of accidents caused by fatigue. Upgraded facilities offer travelers a more pleasant experience during their journeys, enhancing overall comfort and satisfaction.
