DEMING – As of Friday, June 14th, the Luna County Detention Center reported housing 400 inmates, consisting of 245 United States Marshals inmates, 25 Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) inmates, 17 Sierra County hold inmates, and 3 Hidalgo County hold inmates.
Warden Pablo Montoya informed Deming Radio News that the facility, expanded in 2019, now has a maximum capacity of 610 inmates. The center currently employs 79 staff members, including administrative personnel, to manage operations.

Medical services are provided by CorrHealth, a leading correctional health service. CorrHealth, which secured the medical contract in 2018, has been pivotal in maintaining health standards and managing the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic. Their comprehensive care includes routine medical check-ups, emergency care, and mental health services, ensuring the well-being of the inmates during their time at the facility.
