DEMING – A New Mexico State Police officer arrested a convicted felon after a routine traffic stop led to the discovery of firearms, drugs, and a stolen vehicle.
On August 30, 2024, the officer stopped Arturo Arias, 32, for speeding on SR 11 in Deming. During the investigation, the officer learned the gray Honda Arias was driving had been reported stolen out of Riverside, California.
A search of the vehicle uncovered two firearms and suspected methamphetamines. Arias, a convicted felon prohibited from possessing firearms, was booked into the Luna County Detention Center.
He faces several charges, including receiving or transferring a stolen motor vehicle, possession of a controlled substance, possession of a firearm by a felon, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
