Deming Schools Respond to Alleged Threat, Ensure Safety
DEMING – Deming Police Chief Sergio Lara has confirmed that an alleged threat made towards Deming schools is an old post that has resurfaced online. The post, which was reported by school security staff last night, initially raised concerns. However, after further investigation by federal agencies, it was determined to be a reposted list of past school incidents from various locations across the nation. Deming was mentioned on the list but was not the target of any direct threat.
“In continual research on the alleged threat by an assisting Federal Agency, it appears that this is an old threat that is being reposted,” said Chief Lara. “The old post was confirmed to be a list of past school incidents from different areas in the nation, of which Deming was mentioned.”
The post has since been taken down, and the Deming Police Department, along with surrounding local agencies, are conducting extra patrols around the schools as a precautionary measure. Despite the repost, Chief Lara emphasized that the community and schools remain safe.
“There is no direct threat to schools,” Chief Lara assured. “All is safe and sound.”
Parents and students are urged to remain calm and vigilant as authorities continue to ensure the safety of the community.
