DEMING – On Saturday, the New Mexico State Police Investigations Bureau responded to a shooting incident in Tucumcari. Authorities reported that Alex Gutierrez, 24, of Albuquerque, and an unidentified male went to a residence, demanding a backpack.
A verbal confrontation ensued, resulting in Gutierrez shooting a male occupant twice in the abdomen. The victim is currently in stable condition at an Albuquerque hospital.
Following the shooting, Gutierrez and the other suspect fled the scene, hijacked a vehicle at gunpoint, and later released the driver. Both suspects remain at large, and an arrest warrant has been issued for Gutierrez, who faces charges including attempted murder, aggravated assault, and kidnapping.
