DEMING/SILVER CITY – Western New Mexico University (WNMU), including its Deming campus, is experiencing steady growth for the 2024-2025 academic year, with a 5% increase in first-year student enrollment compared to last year.
This growth follows a record number of first-year applications, highlighting increased interest in WNMU’s programs, supported by the New Mexico Opportunity Scholarship, which offers tuition-free education to qualifying residents.
As a Hispanic Serving Institution, WNMU saw a nearly 2% increase in its Hispanic student population this fall. International student enrollment also grew by 20%, reflecting WNMU’s global partnerships, including programs with institutions across the border.
WNMU, including the Deming campus, is developing a new student persistence model to track student success beyond traditional metrics, focusing on nontraditional students such as working adults and parents.
As New Mexico’s only Applied Liberal Arts and Sciences University, WNMU serves a unique role as both a community college and workforce training hub.
