DEMING – Federal officials announced on November 7 the arrests of 16 individuals following an 18-month investigation targeting a drug trafficking ring in southern New Mexico. The operation led to significant seizures of methamphetamine, fentanyl, firearms, and cash. Special Agent Towanda James-Thorne of the DEA’s El Paso division stated, “If corrupt traffickers think they can come into southern New Mexico and set up shop, they’re sadly mistaken.”
The individuals facing federal drug charges include Armando Conrad Gonzales, 43, Leticia Maria Rodriguez, 41, Jessica Juel Henderson, 45, and others from Las Cruces. Antonio Valles, 49, of Canutillo, Texas, was also apprehended. Eight additional suspects face state charges.
Officials allege 14 of the defendants conspired to distribute meth and fentanyl, while one suspect allegedly used a residence for drug distribution. Assistant U.S. Attorney Renee Camacho credited wiretaps and local intelligence for the successful operation, which yielded over 2,300 grams of methamphetamine, 1,236 grams of fentanyl, other drugs, 13 firearms, and $2,200 in cash.
