DEMING — A New Mexico State Police officer has been placed on administrative leave as federal and internal investigations unfold over allegations of DWI-related racketeering.
NMSP Chief Troy Weisler confirmed that Sergeant Toby Lafave is under scrutiny, stating, “As a result of the ongoing investigation into allegations of DWI-related racketeering, I have placed New Mexico State Police Sergeant Toby Lafave on administrative leave pending both the FBI’s inquiry and our own internal investigation.”
Chief Weisler emphasized the department’s commitment to accountability, adding, “Any misconduct or criminal behavior within our ranks will not be tolerated. If it is found Sergeant Lafave’s actions have violated the law or our policies, he will be dealt with swiftly and decisively.”
The chief also reassured the public, asserting that the internal investigation is a top priority and promising that any officer found guilty of corrupt behavior will face full legal consequences.
As the FBI’s investigation continues, NMSP vows to protect the integrity and reputation of the department’s officers who uphold their oath with pride and honor.
