State Police Dedicate Deming Headquarters to Fallen Officer Darian Jarrott

DEMING – The New Mexico State Police have officially dedicated their District 12 headquarters building in Deming to the memory of fallen officer Darian Jarrott, who was killed in the line of duty during a traffic stop in 2021.

Officer Jarrott, a well-respected member of the force, lost his life on February 4, 2021, after initiating a traffic stop on Interstate 10 near Deming. The suspect, Omar Cueva, opened fire, fatally striking Jarrott. Cueva was later killed in a shootout with law enforcement.

The building dedication ceremony drew members of the New Mexico State Police, the state Department of Transportation, fellow law enforcement agencies, and numerous citizens from across the state. State employees and local residents gathered in solemn remembrance, honoring Jarrott’s service and sacrifice.

The newly named facility stands not only as a headquarters for the district’s operations but also as a lasting tribute to Officer Jarrott’s courage and commitment to public safety.
