City Council Set to Open Water Facilities and Address Broad Agenda

DEMING – The Deming City Council will meet Tuesday, April 15, at 5:30 p.m. in the Council Chambers of the Deming Municipal Building, where one of the key items on the agenda will be the formal approval of a fee schedule addition tied to the city’s inflatable water park—signaling the start of the summer season at the Hooten Complex.

The council will also consider approval of a revised deposit fee associated with rental agreements for the Hooten Complex. Both measures are expected to streamline facility use and ensure the water amenities are available to the public as warmer weather approaches.

Mayor Micki Shillito and council members will address a wide-ranging agenda beginning with the consent calendar, which includes the approval of minutes from both the March 18 regular meeting and the March 25 special meeting. Also up for routine approval are annual proclamations declaring May 1 as A Day of Prayer; the week of May 4 through 10 as Municipal Clerk’s Week; and the week of May 11 through 17 as National Economic Development Week.

Additional items on the agenda include a resolution to adopt an updated Infrastructure Capital Improvements Plan for the Deming Senior Center and a new proclamation declaring May as Frontline Worker Appreciation Month.

The council is expected to recognize Salvador Denogean for his dedicated service to local youth and announce new appointments to both the Airport Commission and the Commission on Aging. Public input will be accepted at the beginning of the meeting, with speakers limited to three minutes each.

Other notable items include a resolution authorizing a proposed real property exchange between the City of Deming and Luna County, a city manager’s report, and a closed session pursuant to state statute to discuss limited personnel matters.
