Taylor Swift Announces Encore Version of The Life of a Showgirl, Including New Song with a Nod to Travis Kelce’s Roots

After she announced her new single “Patient Zero” on Tuesday, Sept. 22, the 14-time Grammy winner had more news to share with her fans. On Wednesday, she revealed in a post on Instagram that an expanded edition of The Life of a Showgirl is coming on Friday, Sept. 25, featuring four brand new songs.

“About a year ago, you guys did a truly unfathomable thing. Something that completely blew my mind… You gave The Life of a Showgirl the biggest first week for an album in history,” Swift, 36, captioned a post showing the new cover. “I took a trip to Sweden to celebrate with Max [Martin] and Shellback, my two collaborators on this album. Really we just wanted to reflect and take in how grateful we were for the moment we were in, but there was a studio there and we did what we do when we feel anything at all: We wrote more songs.”

Swift shared that the expanded edition, dubbed The Life of a Showgirl: The Encore, will include four new songs and is available for pre-order now. Along with “Patient Zero,” other new songs will include “Pink Clouding,” “Babylon” and “Cleveland!” — a nod to her husband Travis Kelce’s roots. (Kelce’s hometown is Cleveland Heights in Ohio.)

The Grammy winner added the new songs were written with her fans in mind. “I hope you love them, because they were born out of pure gratitude for your exuberance for and celebration of the album we made,” she concluded her post.

Swift accompanied the announcement with an updated album photo, featuring her wearing a short, glitzy gold dress against a stage-like background. The expanded edition’s title is overlayed in glittering gold letters.

Following a surprise 2026 Emmys appearance in a Law & Order: Special Victims sketch, which was full of Easter eggs, Swift announced her new single “Patient Zero” on Instagram on Tuesday.

The 14-time Grammy winner revealed the news ahead of receiving the first-ever Artist Director Honors at the 2026 MTV Video Music Awards this coming Sunday.

“I’ve been impatiently waiting to tell you that my brand new single “Patient Zero” will be out on September 25 (!!!!!!!!!!!!) and it’s available to pre-order now on my website for 24 hours,” Swift wrote in the caption, while also sharing a photo of her in a black turtleneck leaning against a wall.

Swift also offered three collector’s edition CDs (standard, acoustic, piano) with double-sided covers, available for 24 hours or while supplies last, on her website. Two different images of the “Opalite” come with each CD.

Earlier on Tuesday, Swift quietly updated her Instagram bio to feature three zeroes. “And, baby, that’s sh0w business f0r y0u. ❤️‍🔥,” it read. On her website, Swift also launched a countdown clock.

On Spotify, Swift appeared to take over as different animations on the play/pause button would appear for each album.

Swift is set to receive the Artist Director Honors at the 2026 MTV Video Music Awards on Sept. 27, which recognizes “groundbreaking music artists whose work behind the camera has expanded the possibilities of music video and advanced the art of visual storytelling,” per a press release.

The pop megastar appeared in a pre-recorded sketch on Sept. 14 midway through the 2026 Emmys ceremony alongside host Mariska Hargitay and her Law & Order: Special Victims Unit costars.

During her appearance, Swift said “I think what we’re going to be looking for is hiding in plain sight” before offering up a string of words to decode: “Saccharide. Aries. From the vineyard. North or south.” Swifties on social media eventually cracked the code, pulling out letters from each to spell out “encore.” Meanwhile, others looked back to the “Opalite” video, spotting a small sign that read “Patient for the Encore.”
