BLM Lifts Fire Restrictions in Southern and Central New Mexico

DEMING – The Bureau of Land Management has rescinded fire restrictions across public lands managed by its Albuquerque and Las Cruces districts, citing increased rainfall and rising humidity levels that have significantly reduced fire danger.

Counties now free of BLM-imposed restrictions include Luna, Doña Ana, Hidalgo, Grant, Sierra, Otero, Catron, Cibola, McKinley, Bernalillo, Torrance, Socorro, Sandoval, and Valencia.

While this move allows for more flexibility in land use and recreation, officials remind the public that the statewide BLM Fire Prevention Order NM910-25-01 remains in effect. This order continues to ban fireworks and other explosive devices on BLM lands to prevent accidental ignitions.

The BLM extended its appreciation to the public for helping reduce the number of human-caused wildfires during the critical fire season.

For further guidance, residents can contact the BLM Albuquerque District Office at (575) 761-8700, the Las Cruces District Office at (575) 525-4300, or visit www.nmfireinfo.com.

The BLM oversees more than 245 million acres of public lands nationwide, including vast areas across New Mexico, with a mission to manage these lands for current and future generations.
