New Port Director Sworn In at Santa Teresa Border Crossing

DEMING – U.S. Customs and Border Protection has officially appointed Michael Quinonez as the new Port Director for the Santa Teresa Port of Entry. The formal change of command ceremony was held Thursday at the Doña Ana War Eagle Air Museum, with family, colleagues, and local officials in attendance.

The ceremony featured the CBP Honor Guard, the national anthem, and remarks by El Paso Director of Field Operations Hector Mancha, who also administered the CBP oath of office to Quinonez. The symbolic transfer of authority was marked by the passing of the El Paso Field Office guidon.

“I am truly honored and humbled to accept the role,” said Quinonez. “Taking on this role is both a privilege and a responsibility I do not take lightly.”

In his new position, Quinonez will oversee customs, immigration, and agriculture operations to ensure safe and lawful entry into the United States. With 23 years of CBP service, his past leadership includes managing security initiatives and implementing biometric systems at land ports of entry.

The change of command ceremony, now a CBP tradition since 2008, highlights the agency’s commitment to border protection and public service.
