DEMING — Heavy rains across southern New Mexico combined with cold temperatures have led to a significant increase in potholes along Interstate 10 between Deming and Las Cruces, prompting an ongoing response from roadway maintenance and patrol crews.
Officials say the rapid change in weather conditions caused pavement to weaken, allowing water to seep in and expand, resulting in rough and damaged sections of the interstate. Maintenance teams have been deployed to repair affected areas and are expected to remain on site through the remainder of this week and into next.
Warning signs have been placed along the corridor to alert drivers to uneven road conditions and active work zones. Motorists are being urged to slow down, stay attentive, and give crews plenty of space as repairs continue.
Drivers traveling the route should plan for possible delays and remain cautious while conditions improve.
