DEMING – An 11-year-old Las Cruces student has been charged after allegedly posting a threat on social media suggesting gun violence would occur at Sierra Middle School on Tuesday. The girl, whose name is withheld due to her age, was issued a Class III Juvenile Citation and released to her parent’s custody.
The threat was reported late Monday by Meta, Instagram’s parent company, which flagged a post mentioning a shooting at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday. Las Cruces police, working with Sierra Middle School staff, identified and interviewed the student, who admitted to making the post. No weapons were found in her possession.
Juvenile authorities declined to detain the girl due to her age. Police urge the public to report threatening posts directly to law enforcement and avoid sharing them to prevent unnecessary fear.
