Santa Fe Police Officer Involved Shooting Investigated by NMSP  

DEMING – The New Mexico State Police are investigating an officer-involved shooting (OIS) requested by the Santa Fe Police Department.

On September 22, 2024, Santa Fe officers responded to a disturbance at 102 La Placita Circle, where 33-year-old Stephanie Grace Coon, also known as Gracen, was armed with a box cutter and threatening to kill a resident.

Upon arrival, Coon approached officers with the weapon. After repeated commands to drop it, at least one officer fired, striking Coon.

Medical aid was rendered, but Coon was pronounced dead at a local hospital. No officers were injured. The investigation is ongoing, and the New Mexico State Police will forward findings to the District Attorney for review.
