ALBUQUERQUE — Nearly 500 educators from 35 states gathered for the GEAR UP West Conference at the Albuquerque Convention Center last month. The event highlighted New Mexico’s success in preparing students for college and careers, including a 9% rise in freshman college enrollment.
Attendees participated in over 60 workshops on topics like STEM, scholarships, and professional self-care. Unique New Mexican cultural performances and a trade-career simulation truck enhanced the experience.
GEAR UP New Mexico serves 7,000 students annually, focusing on rural and first-generation college-goers, backed by $31.4 million in federal funding.
