NMSP Arrests Suspect in Deadly Las Vegas Shooting

DEMING – A fatal shooting in Las Vegas, New Mexico, has led to the arrest of a 21-year-old man now charged with second-degree murder.

According to the New Mexico State Police Investigations Bureau, officers responded to a call on April 1st and found 20-year-old Trevor Szalai lying on the ground with a gunshot wound. Another man, identified as Cody Ramone, was on scene attempting to provide aid. A shotgun was found nearby.

Authorities say the two men had a verbal argument that escalated into a physical altercation. During the struggle, the shotgun discharged, striking Szalai, who died at the scene.

Ramone was arrested and booked into the San Miguel County Detention Center. The case remains under investigation by state police.
