Animal Intakes Climb at Deming Animal Guardians and DAGSHIP Rescue in First Half of 2025

DEMING – The numbers are in, and Deming Animal Guardians has taken in 195 dogs and cats during the first half of 2025 — a 22% increase compared to the same period last year. With that rise, shelter space is tight, and a soft “hold” has been placed on new intakes for now.

Despite the high volume, there’s good news. The majority of those animals — 77% strays and 22% owner relinquishments — have already found positive outcomes. According to the shelter’s latest data, 72% of intakes ended in adoptions, with additional animals returned to owners or transferred to other facilities.

The community can stop by Silver Whiskers to see a new plaque celebrating Deming Animal Guardians’ continued status as a No-Kill shelter in 2024. Credit goes to shelter director Chrystal and the dedicated network of foster caregivers who continue working to place animals into loving homes.
