DEMING – The Luna County Board of Commissioners will hold its regular meeting Thursday, September 11, at 10 a.m. inside the Luna County Courthouse.
The agenda includes recognition of three county employees for their years of service: Petra Stevenson with the Assessor’s Office for 5 years, Mariela Higuera with GIS for 5 years, and Rosalba Lara with Parents As Teachers for 10 years. Presentations will also be given by the Las Cruces Recovery Center, Mary Mead on water in Luna County, and Heather Lutz on the Keep Luna County Beautiful Program for Fiscal Year 2026. Commissioners will consider several fiscal items, including accounts payable totaling more than $3.3 million and payroll exceeding $1.5 million.
Other business includes proclamations and resolutions, such as designating October as Domestic Violence Awareness Month, adopting a subdivision policy manual, and authorizing a property purchase agreement. The board will also set certified 2025 property tax rates, and review recommendations for an outdoor recreation and community infrastructure services contract.
The commission will recess as the Claims Board to review indigent claims of nearly $95,000 before reconvening to finish county business. Upcoming meetings include a public input session and regular meeting on October 9, with county offices closed October 13 for Indigenous People’s Day.
