DEMING – On Thursday, Sept. 18, 2025, five people were arrested in separate incidents across Deming and neighboring communities, authorities said.
Omar Martinez, 32, of Vado, and Ulysses Beltran, 27, of Chaparral, were taken into custody on Dona Ana Magistrate Court warrants for failure to appear and were held without bond. Andrew Kwako, 57, of Deming, was booked on charges of battery and drunkenness. Brian Porras, 25, of Deming, faces allegations of battery upon a household member and resisting, evading or obstructing an officer. Jay Hughley, 50, of Deming, was arrested on a Luna County magistrate warrant for failure to appear with a $300 bond and is also charged with larceny in an amount over $500 but not more than $2,500.
Officers investigated a burglary at Silver Linings, 212 S. Copper St., where an employee reported a cellphone valued at $80 taken from the food storage area. In a separate call, police logged criminal damage to property at Southwest Railroad, 308 E. First St., after the rear window of a company 2019 Ford truck was shattered; damage was estimated at $700.
