Village of Columbus Sets Agenda for Regular Council Meeting

COLUMBUS — Council members are expected to consider approval of the consent agenda and the minutes from the December 17, 2025, regular meeting when they convene Tuesday, January 21, at 6:00 p.m. at the Ruth Coleman Community Complex, located at 165 West North Boundary Avenue.

Departmental and monthly reports for December will be reviewed, including updates from the finance department and several village operations. Many departments are expected to report no new activity, while financial and treasury reports, including capital outlay and revenue and expenditure summaries, are listed as being on file.

The council will also address organizational matters, including acknowledgment by the municipal clerk of the receipt of certificates of election and oaths of office, as well as the appointment of a mayor pro tempore.

Several resolutions are scheduled for discussion and possible approval. These include a measure temporarily modifying the employment status of the village treasurer from full-time to part-time, as well as resolutions authorizing the acceptance of grant funding and capital outlay funds from the New Mexico Border Authority and state agencies for infrastructure and quality-of-life projects. One item includes a proposed application to the New Mexico Colonias Infrastructure Board for additional funding.

Budget-related items are also on the agenda, including proposed adjustments to the Lodgers Tax budget and the Fire Department budget. The council is further scheduled to consider resolutions related to pay increases for select village department directors.

The meeting will include a public comment period, followed by comments from trustees and the mayor. The next regular council meeting is scheduled for February 18, 2026, before adjournment.
