Volunteers Team Up for Rio Grande Cleanup with Southwest Expeditions and NM Wild

DEMING – A group of volunteers spent part of Sunday, February 22, giving back to one of southern New Mexico’s most important natural resources, joining a trash cleanup effort along the Rio Grande River area in partnership with NM Wild and Southwest Expeditions.

The cleanup brought together community members who traded a quiet Sunday for gloves, trash bags, and a shared commitment to protecting the river corridor. By the end of the effort, bags of litter had been removed from the area, helping restore the natural beauty of the riverbanks and improving habitat for wildlife.

Following the cleanup, volunteers gathered for a relaxed celebration, sharing food, drinks, and camaraderie—a small but well-earned reward after a productive day of service. Organizers expressed appreciation for everyone who showed up, noting that community participation is what makes these environmental efforts successful.

Southwest Expeditions, based in Las Cruces, is known for offering what it calls “Enchantingly Fun” adventure and heritage tours throughout Southwest New Mexico.
