DEMING – The New Mexico State Police Fugitive Apprehension Unit (FAU) and the New Mexico Corrections Department Security Threat Intelligence Unit (STIU) conducted a successful joint operation in Luna County, resulting in the capture of three wanted fugitives.
On June 14, 2024, they executed a proactive warrant operation to locate and apprehend wanted individuals in Luna County. This coordinated effort underscores the ongoing commitment of state law enforcement agencies to enhance public safety through strategic and targeted operations.
Jimmy Payne, 37, was apprehended at a residence after attempting to escape by jumping out of a window. Following a brief foot pursuit, he was arrested on warrants for larceny and resisting, evading, or obstructing an officer. Payne’s attempt to flee highlights the unpredictable nature of such operations and the readiness of the officers involved.
Erik Garcia, 29, was arrested without incident on an active felony warrant for non-residential burglary. His apprehension contrasts with the more dramatic arrest of Payne, demonstrating the varied challenges law enforcement officers face.
