DEMING – Alfredo Leanos, 27, was apprehended by Deming Police following a dramatic series of events on city streets. The incident began when officers observed Leanos driving through alleys without headlights and failing to stop at stop signs.
Deming Police Chief Sergio Lara told KDEM News that, Leanos halted his vehicle on Buckeye Street, exited briefly, and officers noticed a holstered weapon on him. He re-entered his vehicle and fled the scene, prompting a police pursuit. The chase continued onto West Clark Street, where officers noted pedestrians in the vicinity as Leanos drove at a high speed.
Upon stopping again on Clark Street, Leanos exited the vehicle, this time without the holster or weapon. He attempted to flee on foot but was eventually tased and subdued by police officers.
A search of Leanos’s vehicle revealed a Remington .45 handgun. Leanos faces multiple charges, including possession of a firearm by a felon, aggravated fleeing from officers, negligent use of a firearm, resisting, evading or obstructing officers, open container, and shooting at or from a motor vehicle.
