Active Shooter Reported Near WNMU Silver City Campus
DEMING – Western New Mexico State University in Silver City, New Mexico, has issued an emergency alert after reports of an active shooter near the campus. The incident occurred off-campus on 13th Street and Alabama, with the first alert going out at 4:09 p.m. this afternoon. Students and employees have been urged to shelter in place, and the message emphasized that this is not a test.
As of 4:30 p.m. Tuesday afternoon, the shooter remains at large, and the shelter-in-place order for the WNMU community is still in effect. Silver City and Grant County law enforcement officials are assumed to be responding to the scene.
