New Mexico State Police Bolster Efforts in Downtown Albuquerque to Combat Juvenile Violence

DEMING – The New Mexico State Police have intensified their support for the Albuquerque Police Department to address the rising violence involving juveniles in downtown Albuquerque. This strategic response includes deploying additional officers on Friday and Saturday nights from 10:00 p.m. to 3:00 a.m. to enhance public safety.

In the first weekend of increased patrols, July 12th and 13th, officers made 127 contacts, issued 14 citations, and arrested 3 individuals for DWI, among other actions. The second weekend, July 19th and 20th, saw 57 contacts and 21 citations with 5 DWI arrests. During the third weekend, July 26th and 27th, officers recorded 52 contacts and 18 citations, resulting in 6 DWI arrests.

Chief of the New Mexico State Police, Troy Weisler, emphasized the importance of this collaboration, stating, “The recent violence in downtown Albuquerque is alarming and unacceptable. Our increased presence sends a clear message that violence will not be tolerated.”

The New Mexico State Police are committed to continuing their efforts with local law enforcement to address the root causes of violence and ensure a safe environment for all residents and visitors in Albuquerque.
