DEMING – Yolanda Saldivar, the woman convicted of killing Tejano music icon Selena Quintanilla-Perez in 1995, is up for a parole review nearly 30 years after the crime. Saldivar, 64, is currently serving a life sentence for the fatal shooting, which occurred at a Corpus Christi motel.
Selena, who was just 23 at the time, was shot in the back after confronting Saldivar over missing funds from her fan club and business accounts. Despite running to the motel lobby for help, Selena succumbed to her injuries later that day. Saldivar was arrested following a nine-hour standoff with police.
According to the Texas Department of Criminal Justice, Saldivar’s parole process began months ago and involves input from victims and trial officials. Her case will be reviewed by a parole panel around March 30, 2025.
If granted parole, Saldivar could be released as early as that date. If denied, the panel will determine a new review timeline ranging from one to five years.
