DEMING – A routine response to a suspicious vehicle in Socorro led to the seizure of a significant quantity of illegal drugs and the arrest of a woman on felony charges, the New Mexico State Police reported.
On May 8, Officer Morales of District 11 responded to the vehicle complaint and made contact with the occupants. During the interaction, Morales observed drug paraphernalia near passenger Teresa Marie Gutierrez Romero and noticed her attempting to conceal a bag of blue pills.
A subsequent search resulted in the seizure of 2,069 suspected fentanyl pills, 9.4 grams of methamphetamine, 1.8 grams of heroin, $2,543 in cash, and one firearm.
Romero was arrested and charged with trafficking a controlled substance, a second-degree felony, and tampering with evidence.
State Police emphasized that the case underscores the ongoing threat fentanyl poses to communities across New Mexico and highlights the importance of proactive enforcement in curbing the spread of dangerous drugs.
