DEMING – A year-long investigation by the New Mexico State Police has led to a conviction in a 2024 homicide case. On May 23, 2025, an Otero County jury found 56-year-old Shaun Lefleur guilty of first-degree murder and tampering with evidence in the death of his wife, Nancy Lefleur.
According to NMSP, the case began on April 21, 2024, when a tip led investigators to a shallow grave near Oliver Lee State Park. The body of 67-year-old Nancy Lefleur of Arkansas was found wrapped in a tarp and buried in the desert. An autopsy confirmed she died from two gunshot wounds to the head.
Lefleur was arrested four days later near Cloudcroft and stood trial in Alamogordo. After a four-day proceeding, he was convicted and sentenced to life in prison.
