New Sculpture Installed at WNMU
DEMING – Visitors to Western New Mexico University will now be greeted by a new large-scale sculpture, *Collaboration*, near Old James Stadium. Created by Professor Emeritus Michael Metcalf, the piece features three steel spires and a 5,000-pound Burro Mountain granite boulder. Metcalf, who retired this year, spent four years designing and fabricating the sculpture. Inspired by WNMU’s Applied Liberal Arts program, it symbolizes the support students receive. The artwork highlights Metcalf’s legacy and the university’s dedication to public art and community.
Boil Water Advisory for Pine River MDCA
DEMING – The New Mexico Environment Department has issued a boil water advisory for Pine River MDCA Water System in San Juan County after E. coli contamination was confirmed. The advisory, effective October 10th, impacts 44 users, who should boil water for at least one minute before consuming. State regulations require prompt notification following the detection.
Groundbreaking for Peachtree Canyon Apartments in Las Cruces
DEMING – Housing New Mexico and partners broke ground today on Peachtree Canyon Apartments in Las Cruces. The new development on the city’s east mesa will feature 144 units aimed at families with children. Housing New Mexico CEO Isidoro Hernandez called it a much-needed project, praising the collaboration with local and state leaders, as well as developers Thomas Development Group and the New Mexico Housing and Community Development Corporation.
